Explanatory information for the Indoor Season

For all team players

A warm welcome to the 2019/20 Indoor Season, starting on 16th September 2019, after the carpet has been stretched in the morning.

These explanatory notes are being sent to all league team leaders to explain the changes that will come into effect for the 2019/20 season.

We have invested in a new web-based computer system, called BOWLR

It will allow us to manage the membership, the finances, the leagues, the competitions, club fixtures and special events, such as the Open Singles.

As far as the leagues are concerned, you should make yourselves aware of the following important features:

  • The system will ensure that each team will play all other teams in the league the same number of times.
  • It will do it’s best to spread the rink usage as fairly as possible.
  • Where a league finishes well before the end of the season, further games will be scheduled and will be played in “SETS” format to add a bit of variety,
  • ‘In “SETS” games, 2 sets of 7 ends will be played.  If the teams are 1 set each and the jack can be set before the session bell, a one-end tie break will be played to determine the winner.  If there is no time, the result will be a tie.
  • You will notice that a number of Ipads have been installed below the Notice Boards on the right as you come into the Club.  These will be used for the team Skip to enter the scores of your game but, for this season, we will also collect the scorecards in case Skips are reluctant or nervous about doing so.
  • You will also be able to log in, securely, to the Club Web Site (nwbowls.co.uk) either from home or from a further Ipad installed by the bar, to look at the rink bookings.  For this season, provisional and firm bookings can only be entered in the paper diary by the bar.

The fixture list for your team is attached. If there are any dates, other than those already notified, please let the office know as soon as possible, preferably by email.

Maybe by next season, you will be able to pick your teams on-line and make rink provisional and firm bookings on-line.

As you will have realised, we are trying to bring ourselves into the 21st (22nd?) century.  Whilst we appreciate that not every member will be able to use a computer, it is important that we should be able to communicate with the majority by email.  Could you please ask all your team members to make sure that we have their email address properly recorded.  They should also note that their personal information and contact details will only ever be used within the Club and will not be available to the general public

Enjoy your bowling!
