I have been instructed by the Bowls Wiltshire Executive, following comments received, to remind clubs about players smoking on and around the green.
Bowls England Rules states the following: -
“Smoking on the green is prohibited during all matches played under the jurisdiction of Bowls England. For the purpose of clarification, the “green” in this instance is deemed to include a minimum of 1 metre of the bank surrounding the playing area. Should the Club where the game is being played have a total ban on smoking on its premises, the Club prohibition shall apply. Failure to adhere to this shall result in disqualification. This prohibition includes electronic cigarettes.”
As all clubs in Wiltshire are affiliated to Bowls England then they are playing under the jurisdiction of Bowls England so there should be no smoking on any green in Wiltshire. Most club will have a designated smoking area.
The other point to raise is that in the “Laws of the Sport of Bowls – Crystal Mark Third Addition” Law 33.1 reads: -
“No Player must delay play by leaving the rink of play or their team unless their opponent agrees, and then only for no more than 10 minutes.”
