Indoor Newsletter - #11/2024

Here are the notices for this week, commencing 18thMarch

Open Singles Circuit

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who helped with the Open Singles Circuit Event at the weekend.  I know that the Tournament Organisers appreciated your efforts.  The tournament was a great success with 64 entries and was eventually won by Adam White who beat Mikey Titcombe in the Final on Sunday. 

Club Finals – Saturday 6th April andSunday7th April

The Competition Secretary, Geoff Moore, has booked the finals matches and these are now up on the notice board.  All morning matches will start at 10am and all afternoon games at 2pm.  As these are the finals, all competitions are 18 ends with trial ends; except the Singles which are the first to 21 shots.   

National Comps/Other Leagues

EIBA National Competitions:  Congratulations to the following members who have made it to the last 16 in their national competitions.  They will all be playing their final rounds at the Nottingham in the National Finals.

  • Andy Moore in the Over60s Singles
  • Chris Moore & Andy Moore in the Open Pairs
  • Sue Cooke in the Over60s Singles

Tickets for the 2023-2024 National Championship Finals at Nottingham IBC are now also available.  Due to capacity levels, it is encouraged that tickets, which cost £4 per person per day (plus booking fee), are purchased in advance via Ticketsource who the EIBA are using for online sales. Please click here to purchase ticketsPlease note that competitors will be issued with a player's pass for the days of their event, but if they wish to attend any days before or after they will need to contact EIBA Head Office to obtain a complimentary pass so that they can be included in the permitted spectator numbers.

WIBA: Details of WIBA county fixtures are now on the noticeboard.  Any men interested intaking part in these county fixtures should contact Dave Williams. Fixtures taking place in February are:

  • 23rd March: Vs Worcestershire at North Wilts – this match has been cancelled by Worcestershire
  • 27th March: Vs Hampshire at Banister Park

WCWIBA: Details of the WCWIBA county fixtures ae now available on the noticeboard.  Please add your name to the various availability sheets, if you would like to be considered for selection.  Forthcoming fixtures are:

  • 24th March: Triples Day at North Wilts 

EIBA Summer Competitions 

Entries are now open for the EIBA’s 2024 Summer National Competitions at £5.00 per player. There are 4 individual competitions - Men's & Women's Singles, Open Pairs and Open Triples, along with the Fantastic Fives inter-club competition.  All entries for the individual competitions are being taken via the Competitions Portal (click here to access the Summer 2024 entries page). Details on how to enter the Fantastic Fives are with the office – if there is any interest, then please let Karen know.  The closing date for entries is Friday26th April 2024.

Mixed Friendlies: An Update

To complete the indoor season, there will be a Captain’s Day on Saturday 13th April.  If you would like to take part, please add your name to the availability sheet which is now on the notice board.   

Indoor Club Leagues

New League for 2024/25:  We are looking at introducing a new league for the 2024/25 season but need to determine what the level of interest would be.  We are thinking of running a mixed / open set triples league on either a Monday or Wednesday evening from 8.15 to 10.15pm.  If you are interested in taking part in this type of league on either of these evenings then please add your name to list on the Club notice board – look out for the green poster!  Assuming we get sufficient interest, we will add this to the League Programme.

Summer Indoor Bowls:  We offer a number of opportunities for members to continue bowling indoors throughout the summer, please keep an eye on the notice boards for further information about these sessions: 

  • Monday and Thursday Open Drives from 4pm to 6pmwill continue throughout the summer.
  • Tuesdays and Fridays between 10am and 12 noon; please note that these are now full.  Please contact Richard Jennings on tel: 07794 352913 to check on spaces.
  • Thursday mornings from 10.30am to 12.30pm; starts25th April.
  • We will also be running an additional Wednesday Drive between 2 and 4pm. 

Disability Session – Fridays at 4pm:  Please note that the last Disability session for the 2023/24 indoor season will be Friday 22nd March. We look forward to welcoming back our disabled bowlers in October.

Sad News

  • I regret to inform you that Don Tinson, brother to Gerry, sadly passed away last week on 13th March.  We send our deepest condolences to Gerry and Don’s family.
  • Further to the sad news of Jim Cowe’s passing, following a long and debilitating illness, I have been informed that his funeral will be on Wednesday 20th March at 1.15pm at Westerleigh Crematorium. 
  • I have also been informed that former member, Robert Leonard, has also passed away, last Saturday 16th March at the age of 85.  His family are happy for members who were friends of Robert to contact them regarding funeral details. 

Dates for your Diary

  • The Easter weekend this year falls on Friday 29thMarch to Monday 1st April.  Please note that the club will be shut over this period.
  • Club Finals Weekend takes place over the weekend of 5thto 7th April
  • Our Annual General Meeting is due to take place on Sunday 14th April at 10am.  This meeting is open to all members of the club.  Please make every effort to attend this very important meeting.  The purposes of the AGM are: (1) to elect members to various offices required for the running of the club; for example, Captain, team selectors, committee members, etc.; (2) to consider and, if approved, confirm any alteration to the Constitution and Rules; and, (3) to consider any previously notified propositions/motions.
